ABOUT US

Jungle Beat is Africa’s biggest animated series by far!

It all started in 2002, with an animated short starring a monkey caught in rapidly changing weather. This became the first episode of Jungle Beat Season One, and it set the template for the early seasons: In each episode, a single animal faced down an obstacle in an increasingly-ridiculous world. The show was dialogue-free slapstick fun, and it quickly became an international success. Seasons 2 and 3 followed the same template, with great improvements in animation, comedy and visual quality.

After Season 3, Jungle Beat got its first spin-off series: The Explorers, which followed four silly humans on a mission to study the Jungle Beat animals.

Seasons 4 to 7 saw the first big change in the Jungle Beat universe. The animals all came together for the first time, and while the show remained slapstick and dialogue-free, the stories became more character-based, focussing on the friendship of the monkey (Munki) and the elephant (Trunk) and the rest of their friends in the jungle. Also known as “Munki and Trunk”, these four seasons were a runaway success and became the new template for the show.

In 2020, Jungle Beat: The Movie was released on Netflix (and Showmax in South Africa). In it, an alien crash-lands in the jungle and gives Munki and Trunk the power of speech for the first time.

In 2021, Season 8 of the series was released. Set before the movie, it follows Munki and Trunk dealing with the return of the Jungle Beat Explorers, who have brought an extremely cute puppy with them.

That brings us up to the present, but the Jungle Beat story is far from over! A massive new adventure for Munki and Trunk is in production, due for release in 2023. Stay tuned!
